Resident Magistrate, Eric Mushitu has sworn-in recently elected Upangoma Ward Councilor, Sianga Mwechela, during a ceremony held in the Chamber Council at Kalabo Civic Centre.
Magistrate Mushitu congratulated the UPND Councilor on his victory in the Thursday, October 12 Local Government by-election where he beat two other contestants.
The Upangoma Councilor took oath of office before a sizeable crowd of witnesses and pledged to uphold the rule of law and undertake his mandate in accordance with the constitution.
The councilor also reiterated his commitment to facilitate the delivery of development to Upangoma.
Immediately after being sworn-in, the representative of the people of Upangoma attended his debut meeting as a member of the Health, Environment and Social Services Committee.
Council Chairperson, David Nyundu; Acting Council Secretary, Collins Sililo; fellow councilors and members of the Health, Environment and Social Services Committee witnessed the swearing-in of the newly elected civic leader.
Mr. Sianga Mwechela, amassed 261 votes from the 310 total votes cast. In second position was Patriotic Front (PF) party candidate Mr. Namuchana Simakalecha who polled 28 votes and Leadership Movement (LM) candidate, Mr. Libala Nasilele, finished 3rd with 19 votes; while the poll recorded 2 rejected ballots.
The Upangoma Local Government by-election was necessitated by the demise of late UPND Councilor, Siyoto Numwa.
