Kalabo Town Council in conjunction with the Zambia Public Procurement Authority (ZPPA) has successfully trained 28 local suppliers and contractors from Kalabo District on the utilization of the Electronic Government Procurement (E-GP) system.
The interactive training session held on Wednesday, 27th November 2024, at Kalabo Civic Centre, provided a platform for local suppliers to familiarize themselves with the features and functionalities of the recently introduced E-GP system. The electronic system seeks to digitalize public services and empower local contractors to actively participate in national development.
Speaking during the training, Kalabo Town Council, Senior Procurement and Supplies Officer, Augustine Habweele, disclosed that currently the district retains a database of 42 local suppliers who needed to be equipped with the necessary skills to effectively navigate and comply with the online procurement system.
“A significant number has been trained, considering we only have 42 contractors in our district database. Essentially, the E-GP system must be embraced by all because it is vital in ensuring a more accountable, efficient, and transparent public procurement environment.”
In a related development, Public Procurement and Supplies Officers from devolved government departments and public institutions converged at Kalabo Trades Training Institute to undergo re-orientation training on E-GP system utilization. This separate session focused on building institutional capacity to ensure a seamless transition to the digital procurement platform.
This training program underscores government’s commitment to provision of tools that enable stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to procurement processes and national development.
