FINALISATION OF THE CITIZENS’ VERSION ON THE IDP AND ORIENTATION ON THE IDP MONITORING TOOL

A stakesholders’ meeting is currently underway in the tourist capital of Livingstone at Courtyard Lodge which started on Monday 1^st September and will end on Sunday 7^th September 2025, focusing on the Citizens’ Version of the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and to orient Local Authorities on the IDP Monitoring Tool.

The workshop that has been organized by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) in collaboration with UNICEF, GIZ, and the Policy Monitoring and Research Centre (PMRC). The Workshop has drawn participants from all Local Authorities in Southern and Western Provinces with a call for Inclusive Development Planning.

Southern Province Permanent Secretary Dr. Namani Monze who officiated the opening session of the workshop highlighted the critical role of developing an Integrated Development Plan (IDP) in strategic planning for both short, medium and long-term goals at district level.

He further emphasized that the development of the Citizens’ Version of the IDP reflects government’s commitment to inclusiveness, transparency, and active citizen engagement in the planning process for development.

The Citizens’ Version of the IDP simplifies technical details, making them clear and accessible to ordinary local people for them to participate in the development process. Further, it promotes transparency and participation among policy makers and citizens at large.

Dr. Monze has since urged participants to take the workshop seriously for the benefit of the  local people. The workshop aims to equip Local Authorities with accessible, community-level information and tools necessary to promote citizen ownership of development processes through the IDP Monitoring Tool.
