KALABO DISTRICT TODAY HELD ITS DELIMITATION MEETING

Kalabo Town Council today held a stakeholders engagement Meeting to discuss the Delimitation exercise that will be implemented by the electoral Commission of Zambia. People from various walks of life including Church leaders, Traditional leadership, Civic leaders, Representative of NGO’s and members of the general public gathered at Nalionwa Catholic Parish Hall to make submissions on this important subject matter.
Speaking during the opening remarks for the Meeting, Kalabo Town Council District Registration Officer (DRO) Mr. Alisinda Nawa stated that the delimitation exercise was critical to the implementation of the electoral process that ensures credible and democratic tenents in upholding the good Governance in the Management of elections in the Nation.
Mr. Nawa noted that the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Act No. 13 of 2025 increased the number of constituencies from 156 to 226, thereby creating 70 additional constituencies.
He explained that the delimitation process will not end with the submissions from stakeholders alone, but the process would fully be completed when the newly established constituencies will be published in the Government Gazette and this will take effect on 15th May 2026, when Parliament is dissolved.
He urged stakeholders and participants to engage each other in a respectful and factual manner to ensure inclusivity in the process while being transparent.
On the same occasion, the DRO further encouraged stakeholders to take interest in the forth coming voter verification exercise to ensure that stakeholders can verify their details in the Provisional register of voters that will run both online and physically from 22nd February to 8th March and 2nd March to 8th March, 2026 respectively.
Various stakeholders made submissions and unanimously agreed that Liuwa Constituency be left without being delimited while Kalabo Central was proposed to be delimited into two Constituencies to be called Kalabo Central which should comprise of seven wards namely,
1. Lwanginga
2. Yuka
3. Liumba
4. Mapungu
5.Muchatanga
6. Buleya
7. Lutwi and another Constituency which should be called Kalabo South Constituency to comprise of the following wards,
1. Nguma
2. Chilele
3. Kandambo
4. Lukona
5. Ndoka
6. Mitwi
7. Namuliro.
Among those in attendance were Kalabo Central Constituency MP, Hon. Chiinga Miyutu, Kalabo Town Council Chairperson Mr. David Nyundu, ECZ Commissioner Ndiyoyi Mutiti (Visitor) from ECZ, all Councillors and the general public.
