KALABO COMMEMORATES WORLD MALARIA DAY, HIGHLIGHTS PROGRESS AND ONGOING CHALLENGES

Kalabo Town Council through the Department of Health Services today Commemorated World Malaria Day under the theme: “Driven to end Malaria. Now we can. Now we Must”. The event which was held at Sishekanu Secondary School, was officiated by the Acting Council Secretary Mr Derrick Kanyamba.

And In his Speech, Mr. Kanyamba warned that although substantial progress had been made in fighting Malaria in the Country as evidenced in the reduction of Malaria cases and deaths, there was need to still do more to fight the scourge.

He said in 2025, the District recorded 81, 259 cases while in 2026 a total number of 37, 401 have been recorded in the first quarter of the year. ‘These numbers still means that we have a lot of work to do, said Mr. Kanyamba.

He called for concerted efforts from all stakeholders in the District to fight the disease. He further disclosed that a total number of 1432 Long Lasting insecticide Treated Nets ( LLIN) have been distributed to pregnant mothers and Children in the first quarter of 2026 as part of efforts to fight Malaria.

Mr. Kanyamba appealed to residents in the District to proritise seeking Medical attention whenever they felt sick and to sleep under a Long Lasting insecticide treated Mosquitos nets.

The department conducted Malaria Vaccinations, Malaria testing and treatment, Health education and School quiz among others as part of the activities to Commemorate the event.
