At Kalabo Town Council, the Department of Fisheries, Livestock and Veterinary Services plays a pivotal role in advancing animal health, promoting sustainable aquaculture, supporting livestock development, and facilitating market access for fish and animal products. The Department collaborates closely with local farmers, traders, and strategic partners to strengthen food security, improve livelihoods, and uphold standards for the safe and efficient trade of animal-based commodities.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Delivering veterinary services across the district to safeguard animal health

  • Facilitating the safe trade of animals and animal products in compliance with established standards

  • Promoting animal welfare and the establishment of disease-free zones

  • Implementing livestock development programmes and sustainable rangeland management practices

  • Supporting fisheries and aquaculture through education, capacity building, and regulatory oversight

  • Enhancing market access for small-scale fisheries and livestock producers

  • Collaborating with stakeholders to promote food safety and prevent zoonotic diseases

Functions Include:
